The Fury is a hard rock band based in Phoenix, AZ. They have been together for almost three years and have played several shows around the valley. The Fury are Jimmy Matteucci (Guitar and Vocals), Patrick Boyle (Drums), Jeff Little (Guitar), and Eric Thorn (Bass and Vocals). The Fury started back in the spring of 2003 when Jimmy, Eric, and Pat played together for the first time. Though at first they jammed for fun, the trio soon found themselves quickly escalating to a more serious band. In these months of maturing, the band took on second guitarist Jeff Little in the summer of 2003 to add a different sound to the mix. With the quartet in tact, The Fury soon began writing at breakneck pace, creating numerous original compositions. With their infamous debut in fall of 2003, the young Fury hit the Phoenix music scene live for the first time. Although they were originally labeled as a "hard rock" band, The Fury soon created a signature sound distinguishing themselves from their peers. With the harmonically pleasing progressions and blistering leads The Fury’s sound became known for its guitar driven punch. Shortly after their debut, audiences realized there was much more to The Fury when Pat’s indescribable and incomparable drum solos became a staple at The Fury’s live shows. The Fury incorporated two main vocalists, Jimmy and Eric, whose different timbers and approach added melodic variety and a broader scope of musical genres. By following the sounds of classic rock artists, The Fury tastefully brought a harder sound to the enduring styles of old. Over the past years, The Fury has continued to write and perform their music throughout Phoenix, constantly growing and adding a certain maturity to their sound. The Fury’s albums to date:
Their self-titled debut album was released in fall 2004 consisting of 11 original songs. Though not professional quality, the emotion that the band plays with could not be hidden in this album. It was a great learning experience for a band that had never been in the studio before, and although they have matured greatly since then, this album gave birth to instant classics such as Crumble, Leaving You, and The Way I See You.
Their new album Contraption was recently released and consists of 9 new original songs, and 1 electric version of The Way I See You from The Fury. For this album, The Fury took months to write and prepare their songs before entering the renowned Saltmine Recording Studios to record. Their hard work paid off, with a polished finished product that had variety and yet artistic continuity. Tracks such as the opening track Take ‘em Off, and Paper Airplane instantly beg to be singles. In Take ‘em Off the six part harmony chorus portrays the ever growing vocal depth of the band while Paper Airplane provides a unique and scorching guitar solo followed by an infectious chorus and piercing drum fills. Songs like Into the Blue and The Way I See You show a softer side to The Fury, yet keep the listener bound to the beat. The epic song Venom is really the fruition of The Fury’s growth as a band. Its unique structure provides a harmonic roller coaster culminating in the last of three very different solos. The vocal performance for Venom is questionably one of the best on the album, where Jimmy achieves a much different tone than the usual scratchy deep resonating sound often associated with his vocals. The album as a whole summarizes The Fury as a very diverse and dynamic band with a lot of new ideas founded in old structures, and is a true milestone in the band’s continuing success.
